Welcome to our Chiropractic clinic page
The Pim Chiropractic Clinic has been established since 1963. Visit us at 2 Richmond Road, Caversham Heights, Reading. Located close to the town centre with good road and rail links to the surrounding area. For more than 40 years we have been treating a wide range of conditions, that has included back pain, headaches, sciatica and whiplash type injuries.
Chiropractic treatment is highly effective for giving quicker results and in many cases a more rapid return to work.
The 40 years practicing from the Pim Chiropractic Clinic is just the continuation of the chiropractic story for this family.
Chiropractic treatment works on the principle that nerves, which provide feedback to the brain, provide information about a joint such as if it is out of alignment or stressed and thus not functioning properly.
As a result nerve root irritation may develop, (trapped nerve) thus pain and discomfort may follow.
By adjusting joints of the spine, chiropractors can help re-align vertebra back into their natural position and thus nerve root irritation is reduced and spinal mobility re-established.
Within our purpose built clinics we have the latest chiropractic treatment tables.
Depending on where the nerve irritation has occurred in your spine, your symptoms may include the following:
Acute or lower back pain
Sciatica
Migraine
Headaches
Neck pain
Please note that not all these conditions have been shown to be effectively treated by spinal manipulation alone and some (for example, chronic neck pain) have been shown to respond effectively to massage. If you have one of these conditions then you should talk to us, call on 0118 947 1115 or use our contact form with your enquiry.
Our Story
READING chiropractor Dr Desmond Pim's children were so impressed by the magic their father works that all three followed him into the profession. Dr Pim (doctor of Chiropractic) and his children Richard, Michael and Fiona have all been accepted since, en masse, onto the new Register of Chiropractors, set up by the General Chiropractic Council.
Dr Desmond Pim (doctor of Chiropractic) said: "I think the children followed me into the profession because they were constantly around and hearing about chiropractic."
Dr Desmond Pim who retired in May 2010, had been in continuous practice for 53 years. He was convinced of the value of chiropractic almost 50 years ago after having treatment in Canada for a long-term back problem. Impressed with the results, he changed careers, enrolled in Palmer College of Chiropractic in the class of 1953 and graduated 3 years later in 1956.
He first started practice in Alberta Canada for 7 years, then decided to change the harsh Canadian winters for England where he moved his young family to Reading in 1963 where he was was offered the chance to take over the Kendrick Road surgery. Dr Desmond Pim (doctor of Chiropractic) has recently retired at the age of 83 and 54 years of continuous practice.
First to follow the family tradition was Richard, who graduated from the same college as his father in 1984. He was soon followed by his brother Michael and sister, Fiona. Richard now practises at a surgery in Richmond Road.
Richard said: "I think the fact that you have direct contact with people and can talk to them face to face about their individual conditions rather than stuck like so many people today behind a desk fiddling with a mouse and a computer, is very attractive. There is nothing more uplifting than improving someones overall health through spinal adjustment / manipulation."
Norma Morris chairman of the General Chiropractic Council in 1999 said:
"We are delighted to welcome the Pim family onto our register, it is most unusual to have so many members of one family practicing. But they are certainly ensuring that the health of people in Berkshire is in safe hands"
